How often should I have a 1:1 with my manager?
When booking a 1:1 with your manager there are 4 default options in OpenBlend (some organisations do also switch ON a Quarterly option):
- Fortnightly
- Monthly
- Custom Frequency
- One-off
OpenBlend recommends monthly 1:1s, however your organisation will have set their own recommended 1:1 frequency setting. The platform has been built for maximum flexibility to suit the changing needs of your 1:1s.
What should I be covering in my 1:1s?
Both you and your manager should have a think about the topics you wish to cover ahead of every 1:1 conversation.
Before you meet, you will be encouraged to start adding items to your agenda where you can add specific items from within an OpenBlend module, or discuss the module as a whole. OpenBlend will present Suggestions (based on the pre-defined 1:1 Focus Types), Topics and give you the opportunity to add custom agenda items too.
To further support your 1:1s with your manager, we have also introduced 1:1 Focus Types. Before you start every 1:1, OpenBlend will ask you to select the Focus of the 1:1. Your organisation will have a selection available for you to choose from. This helps keep your conversation focused to ensure you're discussing the things most important to you.
How long should a 1:1 be?
This will be dependent on what you decide to cover in each 1:1. It could be a quick 15-minute check-in or a longer monthly or quarterly conversation. Preparing an agenda ahead of your 1:1 will enable you to be more efficient, if you're limited for time.
Why are personal motivators included (e.g. my partner?)
The idea behind the motivators is to facilitate conversations with your manager about what's important to you, which may well include things outside of work. Having a fuller understanding should lead to a stronger and more productive relationship because you'll have a more focused conversation about what motivates you and what's going on in your life that might be affecting your work. You should take time to define exactly what your chosen Motivators mean to you.
What if I don’t want to share or discuss my motivators or wellbeing?
Not everyone will feel comfortable or will want to discuss their personal life with their manager. That's ok. One of the principles of OpenBlend is that 1:1 discussions are employee-led, meaning you're empowered to share as much or as little as you wish to about your personal life with your manager.
Who is able to see the information held in OpenBlend?
You and your manager can see your profile. Managers of departments can see team ratings and progress of objectives. Admins can see detailed data such as 1:1, trends of motivators and wellbeing as well progress of objectives by manager and across the organisation.
Your notes are private to you unless you decide to add them to the agenda of your next 1:1 or log as an additional 1:1.
