You'll learn about how you can use OpenBlend's unique Motivators module to support great conversations about what motivates you and how this can help you build trusted relationships.

What are "Motivators"?

OpenBlend's Motivators module consists of 30+ unique "drivers" that may influence your performance and productivity: from "Clear career goals" to "Time with family and friends". Using this module puts your motivations at the heart of your one-to-one conversations with your manager.

You will choose a unique combination of "Motivators" that are important to you. You are asked to choose between 4 and 8 motivational drivers, that best represent what is most important to you in your work life, home life and work/home life.

Your Motivators profile is visually represented as a circle divided into 4 to 8 different motivation drivers (depending on the number of drivers you choose).

You will focus on three aspects of your motivator:

1. What does the driver mean to you?

2. What is your goal for the driver? Where do you want to be? Often this is set to "10", but you can customise this target value if you want.

3. What is your reality today? (1-10 rating)

Remember, your target score does not always have to be 10, it is about defining what each means to you and setting a realistic target.

Having great conversations using Motivators

Talking your manager through your Motivators Wheel is an incredibly effective way of helping them understand you as an individual. It helps you communicate clearly what motivates you, where you currently are and where you would like to get to. This helps to foster trusted relationships, where you can have great conversations about how they can best support you in getting where you would like to be.

A key point to remember is that in a workplace setting, a Motivators conversation should only go into areas you feel comfortable talking about. The purpose is to help build understanding and discuss ways the organisation can support you making progress towards where you want to be.

We recommend updating and having a conversation about your Motivators on at least a quarterly basis, or whenever there is a significant change.
