Preparing for your first 1:1
Booking a 1:1
You can book sessions from within OpenBlend (which will sync with your email calendar), or by inviting calendar@openblend.com into a meeting you schedule using your email calendar app. We recommend booking recurring sessions. Learn more here.
Preparing for the 1:1
The first 1:1 in OpenBlend for any employee is often focussed on Objectives (might be renamed in your organisation, to e.g. "Goals" or "Priorities"). For that first 1:1, the OpenBlend system will guide you through some of the OpenBlend features that give structure to 1:1 conversations and help them to be more effective.
For later 1:1s, you will be able to set/choose items for the Agenda (sometimes called "Talking Points"). Setting these in advance helps you both to remember what you want to cover, and then when you have the conversation you'll make sure to discuss everything, and help you to agree any follow-up next steps. Learn more by going here.
Running an OpenBlend 1:1
If meeting face to face, we recommend sharing a computer/laptop screen. If meeting online, we recommend you use screen share. In either case, our recommendation is that the employee's screen is used and that the employee 'drives' the 1:1.
Click 'Begin a 1:1' to enter into the 1:1. You'll then discuss each Talking Point in any order you wish.
You can create and assign Actions based on your conversation, and add any Notes you want to record for the session.
That's it!
We're excited for your first 1:1 using OpenBlend!
Typical Usage Pattern
Below is a typical usage pattern we see with customers. Of course, this is only a guide - you're in control of the agenda and you should talk about whatever is important to you! Also, some organisations only have some OpenBlend modules enabled, the features mentioned here might not be available to you.
Your First 1:1
Get to grips with Objectives. Agree at least one or two Objectives for the employee.
Your Second 1:1
Go through the employee's Motivators one by one, reviewing each so that the manager understands what drives the employee.
Monthly
Review progress on Objectives and Actions
Set any new Objectives and Actions
Quarterly
